I am a responsible, caring and mature lady who enjoys taking care of children. I am looking for a job as an aupair with a friendly family.

Dear host family,

My name is Gloria but my friends call me Glo. I am 22 years old and live in a small town - Kilifi, Kenya. I am mature, caring, responsible, friendly and understanding. I completed my bachelor's degree in biochemistry at Pwani University in Kilifi-Kenya in December 2021. In about a year or two I plan to pursue a master's degree in biomedical sciences but I am yet to decide on which sub-discipline to specialize in. So, at the moment I would like to take some time out of academics to have a different life experience and to calmly and clearly reflect on my future professional orientation, and I am convinced that spending a year or so abroad will be particularly interesting.

My first language is Swahili and I am also fluent in English. I started learning English in kindergarten and it is also the language of instruction in schools here in Kenya.

I have experience in taking care of children as from 6 months old. While still an undergraduate I had friends who became mothers while still studying and I would help them take care of their children when they were having lectures and I wasn't. Also, being the eldest daughter in my family, I have 3 younger siblings. 2 brothers and a sister aged 12, 8 and 6 years respectively, I would help my parents take care of my siblings especially when they go to work or during school holidays. I would get them ready for school, help them with their feeding (and sometimes prepare breakfast for them), take them to school, pick them up from school in the evenings, ensure they tidy up and help them with their homework. I would also play with them hide and seek, do face paintings, narrate stories and watch over them as they play with their peers (neighbors children) so they don't hurt each other.

I enjoy nature walks, visiting new places, trying out new recipes, reading novels, watching documentaries and learning new languages. Above all I enjoy being in the company of children. I love cooking and I have no problem doing some housework for you. I don't know how to drive yet but I am willing to learn In case I will need the skills for the kids "school run".

I want to be an aupair because I love children and I enjoy spending time with them. I am also prepared and aware that being like a big sister to your children will come along with responsibilities for them and it will not always be just play and fun, but I am confident that my calm, patient and understanding personality will help me to master more difficult situations for instance when the kids are tired or don't want to listen to me. I expect that in the first couple of days days I will be exhausted at night because I know taking care of kids the whole day can be tiring but I am certain that I will adapt to the new task and daily routine quickly and become a big help to you.

Living with me is easy as I am not a demanding person. I also understand that I will be required to abide by and follow your house rules. If something does not work out as it ought to I prefer talking about to ignoring it. I have never been abroad before but having studied miles away from home I don't think homesickness will be a big issue to me.

As for preferences, I am looking for a live - in arrangement with a nice host family that will be happy to have me stay with and work for them for at least 12 months. I also prefer looking after children aged between 6 months and 12 years. Lastly, I prefer a host family that will allow me attend language classes when I am not busy with the kids.

I will be happy to have the opportunity to speak with you and answer whatever questions you may have about me or my childcare experience. I will as well appreciate learning more about your family, interests and expectations from the aupair arrangement.

Thank you for reading my application and kind regards,
Gloria.
