Au pair from Guatemala, 19 soon to be 20, looking for a job with a warm family that will make me feel welcomed, starting preferably January 5 or we could agree on something else.

I want to start by saying that I am a very responsible and educated girl. I'm also very open-minded and I love creating fun memories. I love children and I believe childhood is the most important stage of life.

I was born in the capital of Guatemala 19 years ago, however, I lived most of my life in a small town called Antigua Guatemala, which used to be the capital during the colonial period. Antigua is touristic, colorful and beautiful. This means that many people of all over the world fall in love with the town and stay there. These aspects were very important in my life because living there and going to an international school allowed me to interact with different cultures.
I have a very big extended family and we are very close. I enjoy spending time with them and I never miss a family trip to the lake because I can spend time with everyone even though we are literally like 25. I have many little cousins because I am the oldest and I spend a great time with them too. However, my nuclear family consists in my mom, my little sister and I. Along the years we three have created bonds from living together that really make us friends. I've taken care of my sister as a proper older sister. When she was younger by supporting her if she had a bad time during school, while feeling sick on the bus way home, if the teacher needed to send a note to my mom, with her homework and mostly school stuff. Now that she's 15 I've seen myself helping her with boy problems, outfits, friends, texts and birthday parties. It has been a great experience.

My mom has trusted me by giving me a lot of independence in my life, this is why I know how to set goals for myself and make responsible decisions. I know how to manage my time to do the activities I like without forgetting my obligations and responsibilities. Swimming since a very young age has given my life structure and discipline. Social service is a big part of my life and someday I want to take on the path of helping others on a big scale. I mostly enjoy giving my time to children because I see them as the future of the world and I want to make sure they have a good childhood as I did. The best experience I've had with children was last year. There was a massive eruption of a volcano near my town and sadly many people of other towns were affected physically and materially; I went to several refuges delivering supplies and offering my help. In one of them, the manager asked me if I could play with the kids while the adults prepared food. I happily agreed and had a great time with the kids for the rest of the times I went there.

My international experience has been of great importance in my life. It has changed my perspective and now I can see a better world out of my home country. I've witnessed how the influence of other cultures can bring good to Guatemala. When I've been in other countries such as Germany, Spain, and Italy I've seen so many good things I wish I could take to my country. I've also been to the United States, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Panama. However, I see Europe as a better model for my country.

I'm currently studying International Relations in college, however, I feel like I need to expand my knowledge of other cultures before I keep studying. I had other ways I could do this, however, I decided to apply for being an au pair because I think children are very important for society. I really cherish my childhood so I want other children to have great times. I know that in life not everything is perfect, however, I believe that as we grow up it gets more difficult. Looking back, I see how easy being a kid was (although at the time I didn't think that) and so many good memories that have made me who I am to this day. I know that children tend to copy things they see everywhere and I want to make sure they have a good example.

I know being an au pair will increase my sense of responsibility, which I believe is the most important value in life. As I said before, I consider myself very responsible, however, there are still many things I still need to learn. I hope to learn them in another family with a different culture, but at the same time showing others the good things I have.
