Tess, 20,au pair from Kenya, looking for a job and a live-in arrangement with a lovely family, starting from August, 2019.

Dear family,

My name is Teresia (Tess). I am 22 years old. I come from Nairobi. The capital city of Kenya. I'm currently in the last month of my university education. I'm super excited to become an au pair. I have a lot of childcare experience outside the au pair arrangement.

I plan to pursue a masters degree in Data science three or four years from now. In the meantime, I'm giving myself a chance to have a different life experience. To this end, becoming an au pair, living in a different family setting, looking after children and spending a year or two abroad would be particularly interesting.

My first language is Swahili though I'm also fluent in English. In Kenya, English is the language of instruction at all levels of education from kindergarten to institutions of higher learning. I'm always open and ready to learn new languages and I feel like in addition to learning a language, a cultural immersion would do me a lot of good.

When it comes to my child care experience, I have looked after children in both formal and informal contexts. During my holidays in high school, I would volunteer at Fatima Hospital in Nairobi. My responsibility was to look after children with disabilities where I would feed them, shower them and put them to sleep.

My late mum used to travel a lot and it was our responsibility ( my sister and I) to look after our siblings. I would prepare them to go to school every morning and pick them up after school and when they were young I would feed them and put them to bed. When I joined high school, I would only do this during school vacations.

I also take care of my foster siblings. I cook for them, prepare the young one to go to school every morning, help her with homework wash some of her clothes and ensure all her stationaries are in order. I can comfortably say that I sincerely enjoy spending time with children.
