I am an Au pair, caretaker from South Africa looking for a nice family to assist and take care of their children, starting any time from February 2019.

Dear Family,

My name is Rika. I am a 45 year-old (female). I currently live in South Africa, where I have a guesthouse which I don't manage anymore as my daughter took it over.
I raised my kids to be independent & loved. They are both now grown up, two daughters, one 21 and the other 25. Chanell the youngest is a Personal Assistant for a financial adviser at Old Mutual and part time manages the guesthouse. My eldest daughter Nicole is doing her Masters this year in Architecture, top student and I'm a proud mom.

My husband sadly passed away more than a year ago at a young age of 45. I then decided I should pursue what I'm best at, and that is to raise, take care of children, educate them and make them feel loved and accepted, also to take care of people in general. Elderly people and special needs children also has a special place in my heart. I did my International Au Pair qualification as well as first aid course.

My first language is Afrikaans, and I am also fluent in English. I started learning English in primary school.

I would like to take French and Spanish language classed, when I join a host family. I am nevertheless aware that learning a language within a classroom context is by itself, incomplete. So, in order to really be at ease in French and Spanish, I feel that a cultural immersion would do me a lot of good.

When it comes to child care experience, I have looked after children in both formal and informal contexts. Last year, as part of my International Au pair qualification, I spent few weeks working at a kinder garden. I take pleasure to organized recreational and educational indoor and outdoor activities for the children to take part in: we sang, danced, played games, role played, drew, painted, and narrated stories. As part of my new host families children and if you would allow it, we can also visited the public library, the local animal park & went out on picnics.

When I was in primary school my mother had a day care center and always helped her to look after the babies and toddlers. In addition, when I grew up my house was always full of my sister and brothers children and loved having them. Since I can remember children were always comfortable around me and I can comfortably say that I sincerely enjoy spending time with children.

I worked as an Au pair for a wonderful family in Cape town, where I took care of their one year old daughter Olivia on a flexi time bases as needed. Depending on the child's age I will work out a daily schedule with routine tasks and activities and give a short feedback to the parents when they return home. I just fell in love with the family and still visit them on a regular basis.

When it comes to leisure, I take pleasure in the simple things in life. I enjoy being outdoors, being with my friends and family, going for walks, visiting places I have not been to, and reading a good book. I also love to do daily exercises, jogging and hiking. I absolutely love cooking and baking and used to fill my host families cookie jar or bake a fresh cake or make dessert.

As far as preferences are concerned, I am looking for a live-in arrangement with a host family, that would be happy to have me stay with and work for them for at least 6 months, I have no dependents and would also be available to except a 1 to two year offer . I have no preference of the children's ages. Lastly, although I am quite flexible, I would prefer to have working hours that would allow me to attend day time French/Spanish language classes.

I would be happy to have the opportunity to speak with you: to answer whatever questions you may have about me or my childcare experiences; to learn more about your family; your interests and to know more about what you expect from the au pair arrangement.

Thank you very much for your interest in my application!
I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,
Rika
