Dear Host Family,
My name is Tessa Petrie, I'm from Melbourne, Australia. My birthday is on the 25th March 1999. I completed year 12 VCE at the end of 2016 with the subjects, Maths, English, Biology, Sport & Recreation, Visual Communication and Design and Business Management.
A little bit more about where I am from - I have grown up in Melbourne and have lived in a placed called the Mornington Peninsula for majority of my life. The Mornington Peninsula is known for its beautiful beaches and outdoor lifestyle which is very much what I love. I absolutely love where I live and this will always be home but I am so excited to experience new places in the world and different lifestyles.
Growing up on the Mornington Peninsula explains my love for the outdoors and the beach. Whenever I have spare time I will choose to spend that time outdoors doing something fun and adventurous.
My favourite season is summer as coming from where I live there is loads of fun to have down at the beach and outdoors in and sun and the warm weather.
I currently live at home with my Mum (Tracy), Dad (Matt), sister (Ashleigh), my 2 cats (Charlie&Lily) and my dog (Eddie). My family is very close and we love spending time together. As much as I would miss them I am so excited to meet new people and create similar relationships with a new family!!
Now a bit more about my life - since the age of 4 I have always had a love for music and sports especially: dancing, gymnastics, cheerleading, surfing and football (a very wide range :P). I started dancing at the age of 4 and then continued onto gymnastics and then to cheerleading at the age of 9 years old. Ever since then I have stuck with competitive cheerleading and a lot of my time goes into training for this sport. I have had lots of opportunities with the sport including travelling to the US four times with my team for international competitions. I have also won many National Championships in Australia for cheerleading. I began coaching gymnastics and cheerleading at the age of 15 to continue passing on my knowledge to others and to help them develop the same love for these sports that I have and this is where I learnt of my love for working with kids. Since finishing school I have also began working full time in Childcare doing a diploma in early childhood education. My role in my job is to teach children from the ages of 5 months- 5 years important life lessons such as walking, talking, feeding themselves and toileting as well as being a good role model for all these kids.
As well as these things, I absolutely love to travel and when I finished school it has always been one of my dreams to see more of the world, especially the USA. I find that Australia and America are very similar places and my love for Australia (home) also explains my love for America which is why I would love to experience living in America and being a caregiver is the perfect opportunity.
As my role as caregiver I would love to think that my experience in coaching and caring for many different children would give me the skills to ensure that I can communicate well and build an exceptional relationship with your children. I would want to make sure my time spent with your family and children is always fun and positive as that is what I am all about! I believe this is what would make me a good caregiver and I can promise I will always keep your children safe, be a responsible role model as well as being someone they can always trust and come to for help when needed and not only be a caregiver but friend/big sister as well.
As I see my future as working with children I just want to gain as much experience as I can in different ways which is what I want to discover alongside learning about the American way of life.
It may also come in handy that I do have my Drivers License. In Australia we have to complete a total of 120 supervised hours of driving to receive our drivers license which I have done and I received my drivers license in March 2017. I currently have a clean driving record.
