Dear Family,
My name is Gillian. I am 17 years old. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. I am currently a grade 12 student in high school, looking to aupair after graduation!
I am a loving, caring, accepting person! Connecting with children has never been hard for me. I absolutely adore them, and genuinely like their company.

I grew up in a huge family! I am the 2nd youngest of 10. 2 of my sisters are currently in post secondary school, and the rest have already found careers and started families, aside from my 14 year old brother who is still in high school.

In about a year or two I plan on going to university, either in Manitoba or Toronto. I plan to get my bachelor's degree in Political science and Journalism!

My first language is English. I started learning French in elementary school up to the 6th grade, in which I took an advanced course. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I am fluent at all in speaking French, but I do understand some basics. I would love to improve my French speaking, and I feel like a cultural immersion would do just that.

As for childcare, I have looked after kids in both informal and formal contexts! Aside from babysitting, I volunteer every year at the Winnipeg Folk Festival! I started when I was 13. It is a festival full of folk music, good vibes and happy people. I worked in the kids section where I had to look after them, but also entertain them! We face painted, made crafts, played field games and board games. I also used to volunteer at Oasis church in Winnipeg. As a volunteer I had to supervise the kids room while all of their parents were at the service on Sunday morning. We danced, played games, coloured, and sang songs. I had an overall amazing experience. I also went to Camp Cedarwood as a volunteer to supervise 12 year olds for 3 days. Camp Cedarwood is a bible camp about 2 hours out of my city. As a supervisor I had to make sure all of the girls got ready for bed, were in bed at a certain time, made sure they woke up at a certain time, and resolved any conflicts! I also was assigned to a group of about 15-20 kids. Each day we would have a number of different activities to do, and it was my job to get them there, and walk them through said activities. I had an amazing experience with the kids, and I genuinely enjoyed being around them.

When my sisters had children, I immediately helped them take care of the kids since birth. I was babysitting by myself by the age of 12, or I was simply helping my sisters with the kids. One of my sisters had her first born son and decided to stay with my parents for a year. During the year I saw my nephew as a brother figure, and really learned the ropes first hand through that experience.

As for preferences, I am looking for a live in arrangement with a host family, that would be happy to have me stay and work with them for a minimum of 3 months, and maximum of 9 months. I would prefer to work with kids from age 2-13, although, I am a lover of all ages!

I've wanted to be an Au Pair for as long as I can remember! As I get older, my connection with children grows stronger. I genuinely love children. The smile of a child makes my day! I also feel like I need some time away from my family and friends to become my own person and not be influenced. I know I am responsible enough for this job, and I will grow with this experience. I know I give the kids a ton of love and care, all the while being headstrong.
I would love to speak with you to answer any of your questions you might have! I am available over the phone, through email, facetime or skype!

Thank you so much for your interest in my application! I hope to speak with you soon!
Best regards,
Gillian Gruhn
