Au Pair from the United States named Vanessa, 24 and bilingual, looking for a friendly family to share their culture!

Hi, My name is Vanessa and I am very excited for the opportunity to work with you and your family as an au pair. I want to work as an au pair in order to learn about a culture different from my own and develop language skills beyond what I already have. I attended University in the state of New York, studying International Relations and Economics. Education is very important to me and I will work diligently in helping your children in educational tasks and in developing strong language skills. I like to have fun as well, and will be sure to provide an enjoyable environment. I am very easy-going, but also very responsible. You can expect me to work hard and always prioritize the well being of your family. I would like the opportunity to take language classes during my free time and would appreciate weekends off in order to visit nearby cities or take short trips. However, I am flexible to work some weekend days.

I grew up with three siblings, two who are much younger than me. My parents worked long hours growing up, so most days I was responsible for caring for my younger siblings. This usually involved picking my siblings up from school, once I was old enough to drive, cooking an after school meal, helping my siblings with homework, and occasionally putting them to bed. I helped with these tasks for about 6 years. Additionally, I regularly babysat for my middle school teacher, watching after a young toddler. Recently, I occasionally babysit for family friends or friends of my siblings. I want to au pair abroad in order to continue working with kids while enjoying a new culture. I want to be able to learn a new language, learn about new cuisines, and learn about regional customs and traditions.

I am American and have lived in the United States my entire life. However, I am of Mexican and Chilean decent and have Chilean Citizenship. I grew up speaking Spanish and am thus fluent in Spanish in addition to English. In addition to studying international affairs and learning about new cultures, my hobbies include dancing and cooking. I particularly enjoy latin dances but am always willing to learn new genera of dance. I am no chef, but I do enjoy cooking many types of food and hope to learn to cook dishes from all over the world. For the next few years I hope to travel to different regions of the world in different capacities. I want to expand my international experience before applying to a masters program in International Affairs. With this I plan to eventually pursue a career in diplomacy or work for a non-profit.
