Introduction of the family offering the au pair / nanny job:

We are a Finnish-British family of four people (our children: boy 4 and girl 2) looking for our first au pair to help with childcare, cooking and some housework. We would like you to start in the beginning of May and stay at least until the end of August.

*** We would like to find an au pair very soon - thank you! ***

We are a Finnish-British family of four people looking for our first au pair. We would like you to start in the beginning of / mid May and stay at least until the end of August.

We have a 4 year old son who started in kindergarten last August and a soon 2,5 year old girl. We speak Finnish and English at home. Our family is strictly non-smoking and we have a vegetarian-fish diet (so no meat is eaten in our house).
The mum is currently at home with the kids but is also working part-time from home with very flexible hours. The dad also sometimes works from the home office and travels occasionally for extended periods abroad. However, our au pair will have great support at home from the parents and won´t feel left alone to cope with the kids!

We live in Helsinki near the sea in a nice apartment with a garden. You would have your own room next to the kids' rooms. You can use Wi-Fi internet connection for whatever you want to do in your freetime.
There's lots of nature around us, very nice neighbours and many play parks for the kids to enjoy.
Within walking distance from our home there is everything you need, from the seashore and beach to a hypermarket and a very big shopping center with cafés and restaurants plus excellent transportation to the city center if you want to go to the cinema.

The main tasks would be caring for the kids and helping out with the daily routines (such as helping to get them ready for the day, breakfast, getting dressed, brushing teeth, and in the evenings helping at dinner time, bath time and other bedtime rituals). Some days you would be taking them out to play in the morning or perhaps take our son to the kindergarten or pick him up afterwards.
Your tasks might vary from day to day and the timetable can sometimes be flexible both ways to keep both you and us happy.
Some housework such as cleaning the kitchen and doing a weekly vacuuming of the house would be included.
We would love to have an au pair who loves cooking! So cooking would be part of your duties. Being a morning person who likes waking up early is definitely a benefit as our kids tend to wake up between 6 and 7.30 most mornings (luckily lately mostly around 7 or after).
We would really like our kids to start learning a new language so you could perhaps speak your own language to them. At the same time you would have a chance to learn Finnish and to brush up your English with a native Brit. On the other hand a native English speaking au pair would be perfect for our family in helping to strengthen our kids' English skills.
Naturally we expect you to be very child loving and hope for experience in taking care of toddlers (our daughter still wears nappies and is now only learning to talk more so she can't express everything she wants verbally just yet) and preschoolers. Other qualities we appreciate include being proactive, organised and motivated. Also reliability, flexibility, punctuality and appreciation for a tidy home are important.

Thanks for reading and if all this sounds like a good match for you then please be in touch!
