Finnish-speaking au pair needed by a nice and active Finnish-American family living near Boston, MA, USA with two children. We have hosted two Finnish au pairs before. They both became very close to our family. Now looking for our next new family member!

We are looking for a happy, independent, outgoing and fun Finnish-speaking au pair to care for our two children (3-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl). We have had two Finnish au pairs before (one for 1 year and the other for almost 2 years), and really enjoyed the experience. Our kids are easy-going and loving little rascals :), who enjoy staying active both indoors and out. They are liked by their teachers, care-takers, and friends, and we parents love them too (although they sometimes drive us crazy!). :) Our former au pairs are happy tell you more about us.

We live about an hour outside of Boston, in a small, peaceful town. The train that goes to Boston is only a 5-minute walk from our home. Au pairs love Boston and nearby Cambridge (especially the shops and cafes at Harvard Square), and there's always something going on in the au pair community, so you would definitely not have trouble filling up your free time with interesting things to do. We also have a few neighbors with au pairs, so your colleagues would be close by. :) New York City is about a 4-hour bus drive away, and there are low-cost buses that go there several times a day. So, going to the exciting Big Apple for the weekend is definitely always an option!

We need help taking care of our kids from about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. You would have most weekends completely off. Your work would involve getting the kids ready for school, playing with them (also outdoors), helping with their meals (usually no cooking required), dressing them up, helping with the naps, etc. Only light household duties would be required, such as doing the kids' laundry and cleaning up their room (or if you can make the kids clean up after themselves, even better!). ;) Some of that work can be done when both of the kids are in school.

Our family is quite busy and active, and life can be hectic at times, but we do not want to fill up our kids' daily schedules with too many hobbies (at least not yet). We value play time in our kids' own terms: time to be active both indoors and outdoors, be creative, inventive, silly and funny -- and enjoy simply being kids. As a family, we value healthy, wholesome food, exercise and spending time together as a family, as well as with good friends. We want to raise our kids to be good communicators who respect and get along with everyone. We recycle and try to conserve the environment as much as we can. We realize the value of religion but do not practice it much in our daily lives. We hope that you fit our lifestyle and values, too.

The mother (a native Finn) works as a linguist in a software company and used to be an au pair in the U.S. herself many years ago. The father (born and bred American) works in business development in the life sciences field. We both have flexible work schedules.

All au pairs stay in the U.S. for a minimum of one year (it's a visa requirement).

A driver's license would be helpful but not an absolute requirement. In our area, you can get around without a car, too, or get a ride from the other au pairs.

We expect you to love children and have experience working with them (references are required). We hope that you are trustworthy, resourceful and flexible, and have an active, positive outlook on life. We hope that you would sometimes like to spend some 'extra' time with us when we are together as a family, so that you can feel more like our family member. However, we also know it's critical that you go out and explore life outside of our family and our home, to truly feel happy in your new environment.

We are flexible with the starting time, but are looking for an au pair to join our family as soon as possible.

Please only reply if you are truly interested in becoming an au pair, and it seems like a right time in your life to have this experience of becoming part of our family. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
