Nanny from the United States named April, looking for a job in Lille starting 1 September 2018

My name is April, and I am a 22 year old from the United States. I grew up in a small town in Oklahoma where I was active in sports, photography club, and girl scouts. I am currently finishing up my studies at a university in Oklahoma, and in may I will graduate with 3 degrees in Spanish, Human Nutrition, and Microbiology. I plan to go to Medical school, but first I would like to take a year off to learn French, experience a new culture, and discover new things about myself.

In my free time I like to hike, travel, and practice photography. I love meeting new people, making new friends, and learning about other cultures. I am a very patient and tolerant person, who loves to smile and enjoy the little things in life.

I come from a family of four—my mother, father, and my little brother who is 15 years old. My mother is a social worker, who works with young mothers and their children and my dad is a pilot. My little brother just started his first year in high school and loves to play his video games.

In Fall 2016 I studied abroad in Argentina in order to be immersed in the Spanish language and experience a new culture. I lived with a host family, a 70-year-old woman who loved to tango and was full of life and other students from the US and Mexico. I fell in love with Argentina, a place full of diversity, and the experiences I made there. Upon returning home, I decided to work in my schools Study Abroad office in order to help other students go on amazing adventures like mine. Not only did I help younger students start their path to studying abroad, but I also helped students on exchange from other countries learn about what life in the US was like, and planned trips and activities for them. It was there that I fell in love with the French culture and language, through friends from Lille University.

In college I have been involved in many activities. I've worked as a server, a tutor for people studying Spanish and sciences, and as a volunteer Spanish teacher for nine and ten-year-old kids. I've interned with the Woman, Infant, and Children Clinic where I taught mothers and their children the value of nutrition and I worked with a nutritionist and helped her as she planned weekly exercise games and activities for children who were suffering from obesity.
I started babysitting when I was in high school, and often watched my little brother while my parents were out. I also had a professional babysitting job, taking care of 4-year-old with autism when needed, over two years (stopping once I moved away to college). My other experiences with children have been through my internships and volunteer work.

I want to work as an Au Pair for many reasons. One, to learn the French language and to be immersed in the culture. Because I have connections in Lille, I would like to live with a family near the city. Although I tend to be independent, I hope to have a close relationship with the family, so that I can fully immerse myself in their culture. I would like to start working in August 2018- September 2018 and for around 6-8 months. In addition to helping with the kids, I am also okay with cleaning tasks as well (I actually love to clean) and I wouldn't mind helping with schoolwork! I think being an au pair will be an enriching experience and an affordable way to live in another country. Plus, I absolutely love kids because they are so full of joy!
