- Age: The au pair must be between 18 and 26 years of age (at the time of reveiving the work permit)
- Salary (Pocket money): The au pair should receive an allowance of €450 a month, which must be deposited to the au pair's bank account
- Number of hrs to work and days off: The au pair must be given at least one day off a week and one full weekend off per month
- Duration of stay: The maximum duration of the stay is 12 months
- Visas: The host family must apply for a work permit B at the immigration service. The application must include a medical certificate and an employment agreement. For more information and to find out the requirements for getting a work permit see Visa requirements for Belgium
- Language requirements: The au pair must have a basic knowledge of the language of the host family or attend an intensive language course immediately after arrival in Belgium
- Health Insurance: The host family must take out insurance covering the au pair for illness, hospitalisation and accidents for the entire duration of the au pair's stay
- Travel costs: Travel costs to Belgium from the au pair's home country should be covered by the au pair. However, if the host family wants to pay for a part of the costs, it is suggested that they do so after the au pair has stayed with them for at least half of the agreed time.
- Language courses: The au pair must attend language courses and the school she attends must issue a certificate every 3 months, as proof of the au pair's regular attendance
